Come and See

Scripture:
“ ‘Rabbi, where are you staying?’ ‘Come,’ he replied, ‘and you will see.’” — John 1:39, NIV
⸻
There was no sermon.
No miracle.
No clear plan.
Just a small step in the direction of hope.
The first disciples didn’t have it all figured out. They weren’t certain of who Jesus was or where He would lead them.
They just heard someone give witness—and they followed.
It began quietly.
They didn’t offer a statement of faith or ask for a blessing.
When Jesus saw them following, He simply asked what they wanted.
They asked,
“Rabbi, where are you staying?”
And Jesus replied with a simple invitation:
“Come and see.”

Discipleship Starts Small
John—later called the beloved disciple, witness some of the most intimate glimpses of Jesus’ glory during His earthly ministry, the one who stood at the foot of the cross and saw the empty tomb—started his journey with a simple, quiet question:
“Where are you staying?”
No dramatic calling.
No emotional rush to leave everything behind.
That would come later.
It started with a simple step
A simple question.
The same as it did for many of us.
A simple openness to begin.
Discipleship doesn’t require boldness or brilliance.
It begins with a response:
to come and see.
⸻
Reflection
If your journey of faith has felt quiet, slow, or uncertain—you’re not alone.
Jesus never demanded that we come perfectly.
He simply invites us to come.
⸻
Come with your doubts.
Come with your wounds.
Come with your unfinished story.
Come, and stay with Him.
⸻
Prayer
Lord,
Remind us that choosing to follow You doesn’t always begin with a dramatic moment or a life-changing event. Often, it’s simply the beginning of a journey—quiet, humble, and unseen. And yet, when we look back on that journey we can clearly see how You’ve been leading us all along.
Thank You, Jesus, for guiding us—step by step. Continue to walk with us as we embrace the life You’ve given, and help us follow You with faith, even when the path feels small.
Amen.
