“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
—Philippians 1:21 (NIV)

Paul’s words are bold: “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Paul wrote these words not from a place of comfort, but from a Roman prison, uncertain if he would live or die. And yet, even in chains, he saw life as a gift—a chance to serve Christ and strengthen others. He didn’t view death as a tragedy, but neither did he waste the time he still had. For Paul, every breath was an opportunity to live with purpose and pour out love, truth, and grace.
For those reflecting on life: Your life still carries meaning, you are not forgotten, and you are not finished. Whether through prayer, conversation, quiet courage, or continued faith, you are still making a difference. As long as there is breath, there is opportunity—your presence speaks of Christ’s presence.
To those close beside you, take heart in the witness of a life lived faithfully. Let these moments teach you how to serve with joy, endure with hope, and love without hesitation. This is not just the end of a journey—it is a glimpse of a legacy. Let it inspire you to live your own days with that same holy purpose.
For the Journey
Reflect on this:
Every experience that you go through is an opportunity to reflect Christ to those around you.
As long as you live for Christ, you are never on the sidelines—He will always continue to work through you.
God’s work in you is never finished—He continues to write your story and use it to reach others long after your journey ends.
Prayer
God, thank You for the lives that point to You. For the one who is nearing the finish line, help them to know that their journey still matters—that their life continues to reflect your glory. Lord, for the ones who stand beside us, may they find courage in this example. Help us all to live in such a way that, when the time comes, we too can say: to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Amen.
