Scripture: We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.

—Psalm 78:4 (NIV)

Stories are how we remember. They are how we pass down what matters most—not just facts, but faith. Scripture is filled with the command to tell the next generation about God’s goodness, power, and presence.

As the end of life approaches, there is still time for something powerful: testimony. Your life, with all its ups and downs, carries a sacred story. A story worth telling. A story someone else may need to hear.

To those reflecting on life: you don’t need a pulpit to preach. You don’t need a book to be an author. Just speak from your heart. Tell your people how God showed up for you. How He walked with you through storms. How He loved you even when you felt unworthy. These stories are seeds. They will take root in the lives of those you leave behind.

To the ones standing close beside: listen well. Take time to ask questions. Capture the words, the memories, the moments of faith. They are treasures, and they are part of your inheritance.

For the Journey

Let this be your focus:

  • You still have something important to pass on.

  • Testimony lives longer than timelines.

  • Your words of faith today may guide someone’s tomorrow.

Prayer

God, thank You for the story You’ve written in our lives. Thank You that no chapter is wasted. For the one nearing the end, give them the strength and clarity to speak truth to the next generation. For the family nearby, give them ears to hear and hearts to remember. May these final words be full of life, faith, and legacy. Amen.
